Reflections

It has been a joyful KinderHouse year that I am sad to see coming to a
close. What an honor to watch these wonderful children flourish and grow! Those
who were shy or tentative at the start of the school year have bonded and
formed warm friendships. The “squirmy worms” have learned to be still when the
time is right and wiggle and giggle when it is time to play! In September, some
children were squirrelly or talkative during circle time and story. Now, our
circle and stories are much longer and more elaborate. The children are all
engaged throughout circle, quietly listen to the tale and moan, “That story was
so short!” when the story comes to an end. Then, they play together, often
re-enacting their favorite puppet plays.
The outdoor play has also blossomed. Those who used to sit by my side at times are off playing family, making fairy houses, digging, climbing and exploring in the forest with their friends while I quietly observe and crochet. There is no end to their rich, imaginative play in the woods! The children treat each other with respectful kindness and genuinely enjoy being together. Laughter fills the air and their conversations are both interesting and hilarious. They tell jokes and tall tales, talk about their families, pets and home lives at snack and have nearly mastered the table manners that we’ve practiced throughout the year. I could go on and on. But, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. Please enjoy these moments that were captured throughout the year.
